TAKE NOTE: Power problems cause more water outages

It is not known at this stage how long the outage will last.

UPDATE:

Eskom denies blame for water outage

Eskom has denied responsibility for the water outage caused by the malfunction of the Ugu District Municipality Umtamvuna water pumping station, as was reported recently.

When asked about this, Ugu told the South Coast Herald that a joint Ugu and Eskom statement would be released. This was not forthcoming.

An email was subsequently received  from Eskom spokesman Joyce Zingoni reiterating that the water outage was not Eskom’s fault.

ORIGINAL STORY

BELEAGUERED South Coasters face more water supply problems, this time caused by a generator blow-out.

According to Ugu District Municipality, a burnt-out three-phase Eskom generator, which will be out of commission for an indefinite period, is adding to the devastating water cuts the South Coast has experienced throughout the holiday season.

The generator, situated near Port Edward, failed yesterday and only one phase is now working.

This is not supplying enough power to fill the reservoir that provides water to areas between Southbroom and Port Edward, as well as Izinqoleni, Mvutshini, Nzimakwe and KwaXolo.

Eskom is investigating but has not yet been able to isolate the fault and is unable to say when the generator will be fixed.

Relief measures will be taken to provide residents of the affected areas with water.

In the mean time they are asked to make whatever contingency plans they are able to.
