Paddling pool in a sorry state
There are fears that the water may pose a health risk.
CONCERNS have been raised over the condition of the children’s paddling pool in Margate.
According to some, the pool appears dirty and neglected.
Although the pool is meant to be cleaned every Monday, following weekend activities, this week the water looked green.
One upset resident spoke to the Herald, saying that the poor quality of the water was a serious concern, especially as children were swimming in it.
“The health risks posed by a dirty swimming pool can be severe. There are strict standards associated with keeping pools clean, but it seems the municipality is failing to adhere to them,” said the caller.
Ray Nkonyeni Municipality communications officer, Nomusa Zulu has commented:
“The pool attendant noted this and took samples of the water for testing. After establishing the problem, the process to purchase necessary chemicals was initiated. The purchase order has since been approved, and chemicals will be placed in the pool.”
She added that the pool water should now be back to normal.
