‘Mudville’ set to light up

66 houses in phase one are expected to have prepaid meters and electricity by April this year.

MERLEWOOD green-field housing project, dubbed ‘Mudville‘, will soon have electricity installed.

A whopping R4 681 886.39 will be spent on the entire project.

For now, 66 houses in phase one are expected to have prepaid meters and electricity by April this year.

A total of 423 houses will benefit from the project, which is expected to  employ some 20 community members. 

A contractor, BTMN Consulting Engineers, and consultant Hamsa Consulting Engineers have been appointed to complete the project.

At a community meeting held at the Merlewood Youth Centre on Tuesday this week, Ray Nkonyeni Municipality mayor Cynthia Mqwebu pleaded with the contractors to complete the project in the specified time and urged them to liaise with the community  should there be problems.

Cllr Mqwebu also urged the community not to steal cables and materials that will be used for the project.
