Drug test kits handed out at schools
Drug testing will help prevent drug abuse and identify those in need of help to become drug-free.
THE harsh reality is that school grounds have become places for drugs to be exchanged.
Quest for Justice, a non-profit organisation involved in the fight against drugs teamed up with Raine Massey from Uber Test to give two local high schools, Suid-Natal High and Port Shepstone High, drug testing kits last Thursday.

Mrs Massey said that if parents think their children are taking drugs, they should get them tested as soon as possible.
“Drugs are very easily accessible to everyone, especially children,” she added.
Mrs Massey pointed out that drug testing can serve as a deterrent, give pupils reason to resist peer pressure to take drugs, and help to identify teens who have started using drugs as well as those who already have drug problems.

Vanessa Stanton from Quest for Justice said that drug dealers are infusing everything with various addictive substances. “One of the latest trends is a chocolate-looking sweet laced with dagga which sells for about R150,” she said.

This week Port Shepstone High’s Teens Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse (TADA) is launching a drug awareness campaign at the school.
Pupils will wear blue ribbons to create awareness about the topic and talks about drug abuse will be held, at which pupils will be given the opportunity to ask questions.
School pupil, Gina Coxen from TADA said she wants to stop people taking drugs, not only in school, but also in the community.
