Confusion over availability of RNM property valuation objection forms
Despite being told they are available on Ray Nkonyeni Municipality's website, the Herald could not find the forms.
ALTHOUGH property owners have been urged to check that their properties are valued correctly and lodge objections with Ray Nkonyeni Municipality if they feel the valuation is not accurate, this is not as easy as it seems.
There is some confusion over whether the valuation roll objection forms are available on the municipality’s website or not.
The Herald received numerous phone calls from concerned property owners, who were confused about how to acquire these forms.
Initially, municipal notice 023 of 2017 stated that objection forms may be downloaded at www.rnm.gov.za
Smses containing the same information have also been sent to property owners. However, the Herald was unable to find these forms on the website.

For now, forms for lodging objections are obtainable at the Treasury Offices in Margate and Port Shepstone as well as Ezinqoleni municipal offices.
It is not clear when they will be uploaded on the municipal website.
The period within which to lodge an appeal or a complaint ends on Friday, April 28 at 3pm.
Following an email requesting clarity from the municipality’s spokesman Simon April, he did not explain why the forms were not on the website as stated in the smses and municipal notice at the time of print.
Completed forms must be returned by registered mail to The Municipal Manager, Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality, Valuation Roll, P O Box 5, Port Shepstone, 4240 or hand-delivered to the Treasury Offices in Margate or Port Shepstone.
They may also be handed in at Ezinqoleni Municipal Offices (on Tuesdays only). Completed forms can also be emailed to objections@rnm.gov.za
