MERLEWOOD Primary joined environmental programme Schools Environmental Education Programme (SEEP) in 2016.
The programme is supervised by the Department of Agriculture and Environmental Affairs and promotes good ‘green’ values from an early age.
At a recent SEEP awards ceremony, Merlewood Primary received a certificate for taking part, as well as a special award for innovation.
Projects were pupil-driven and because of the limited gardening space available due to construction of the new school building, pupils creatively used old desks as planters.
They also used materials to combat soil erosion in the temporary location.

The school further received a literacy award for providing sufficient evidence that proves all pupils are being taught about the environment and all projects are linked to the curriculum.
