Ambitious new development on the cards for Umtentweni’s John Mason Park

Major changes, including shops, restaurants and office space, as well as recreational facilities, are expected.

GOOD news for Tweni: a proposed development is set to take place at John Mason Park.

The news was confirmed by Xoliswa Daku,  CEO and founder of the Daku Group, at a public meeting held at Umthunzi Hotel and Conference recently.

Ms Daku, a lawyer-turned-property developer, addressed a group of Tweni residents, including many in the property trade as well as councillors, about the development which would include a hotel, shops, restaurants, office space and apartments as well as recreational facilities.

Taking questions from an enthusiastic audience, Ms Daku said the plans were an initial proposal and subject to change as the project evolved, with the views of the community playing a major part in the final design, should the project be given the green light to proceed.

Mandla Mabece, CEO of the Ugu South Coast Development Agency (USCDA), said that a decision whether or not to proceed to the next stage would be taken at the end of April.

According to Mike Davies from the Tweni Ratepayers’ Association, John Mason Park is the most valuable piece of undeveloped land on the South Coast.

“It was formerly two sports pitches, now disused and overgrown. It sits behind coastal dunes and is surrounded by indigenous coastal forest. Any proposed development would have to take environmental concerns into account,” he added.

If anyone has any comments on the proposed development,  email them to mike1959@telkomsa.net by March 28 for submission to USCDA.
