Clean water is wasted as Ramsgate resident claims Ugu fails to respond to leak

Concerned residents say Ugu is not prioritising putting a stop to water wastage.

Hundreds of litres of clean water gushed onto a property in Ramsgate from Marine Drive for almost two days this week.

According to residents in the area, the matter had been reported to Ugu but it had not been attended to for more than 24 hours.

“It’s really disappointing that, when we are faced with hard times, such issues are not given priority by Ugu employees,” said one concerned resident.

Water streams down from Marine Drive into a property in Ramsgate.

The resident added that Ramsgate had had far too many burst pipes causing water shortages in the area.

Ugu spokesman France Zama said they were only informed about the leak yesterday (Wednesday) and that a plumber had been assigned to deal with the burst pipe.
