SASSA fails to pay out – some pensioners left penniless with no warning

Beneficiaries have apparently been turned away at the pay points.

DESPERATE pensioners are demanding answers from the South African Social Security Agency after they were turned away at SASSA payout points, apparently due to there being ‘insufficient funds’ on their SASSA cards.

The pensioners are now demanding answers, wanting to know why they’ve not received their  payouts when their cards only expire in December.

According to Nokuthaba Yeni of Gamalakhe, after hours of standing in a queue at a payout point, she was eventually turned away and told there were no funds in her card.

“I was shocked. There was no warning and no notice from SASSA. How am I supposed to pay my bills?”

KZN SASSA spokesman, Vusi Mahaye, said they were unable to say why some pensioners did not receive their grants as problems differed from pensioner to pensioner.

He however urged all pensioners who had not receive their grants to visit their nearest SASSA office.

Please note that the Marburg offices have re-opened since the recent strike action.
