Meet ‘the voice’ of the SPCA – and he’s guaranteed to make you smile
Winston Smile is not only a great performer but he is now the face of the Lower South Coast SPCA.
WINSTON Smile (30), the coast’s much-loved singer and songwriter is officially the ‘face’ of the Lower South Coast SPCA.
Winston, who owns four dogs himself, believes not much is done to create awareness around animal organisations which desperately need help. “People seem to think the SPCA receives money from the government but they don’t get a cent,” he says.
He has promised that he will do his best to promote the Society and has urged the community to lend their support as well.
One of the many ways to do this is by signing up as a general member of the SPCA and/or joining the High 5 membership group at R50 per month. Visit Facebook at high5@spcalowersouthcoast for details on how to enter and stand a chance to win your share of R65 000 worth of annual cash prizes.

Winston, who plays the guitar, comes from a family of musically talented people. “I have never had a job, it’s just been music,” he said. The biggest concert he has performed at, to date, was in Nelspruit in 2007 when he was the opening artist for Danie Niehaus. He performed in front of 7 000 people.
“I enjoy being on stage, although I do get stage fright, but I usually don’t stay on the stage for very long and like to be among the crowd.”
He is a huge fan of the coast and, as he is a family man, he believes the coast is a great place to raise a family. “The coast is always green and it is a safer place to raise a family compared to others.”
Winston, who is positively upbeat, said he appreciates life after being involved in a car accident which changed his life a couple of years ago. “If I make one person smile a day that is awesome,” he said.
He said it breaks his heart to hear of animals suffering and encouraged people who are battling to afford to take care of their pets, to call the SPCA for assistance rather than be cruel to them.

“Animals play a big role in our lives. You wouldn’t be cruel to another human being, so why be cruel to an animal?. Dogs provide us with security and are always there to protect and welcome you home,” he said.
Catch Winston at the Shelly Centre (near the Hub) this Saturday between 8am and midday. He will also be one of the entertainers at a flea market at the SPCA premises, on the corner of Seaslopes and Quarry Roads, Uvongo, on Saturday, July 8 from 8am to 4pm.
