HENDRICK Ludick has recently been the ‘king pin’ in tracking down stolen vehicles.
Mr Ludick, who owns a private tracking business, alerted police in Port Shepstone about a vehicle heading towards Port Edward yesterday.
The light delivery vehicle (LDV) had been hijacked earlier at gunpoint from the owner at Reservoir Hills in Durban and the hijackers also shot at the victim.
The three men then made their way south when Ludick alerted police.
Warrant Officer Willow le Roux and Sergeant Mark Banjo from Port Shepstone K9 unit rushed to assist him.
They managed to track the vehicle near Mzamba in the Eastern Cape and pulled it off the road.
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, said three men were arrested.
Inside the vehicle an unlicensed .38 revolver and five rounds were found.

It was later established that it was reported stolen in Umbilo in December 2012. A cellphone and truck spares were also found in the bakkie.
The men will be charged with being in possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and stolen property at Mzamba police station.
They will also be charged in Durban for the hijacking and shooting.
But it doesn’t end there, another vehicle, a bakkie, which was stolen in Port Edward was also tracked to Mzamba area by Mr Ludick on the same day.
Again, he requested SAPS assistance.
Four members of the Port Shepstone 10111 Call Centre, Warrant Officer Riaan Joubert, Constables Zonwabele Mpofana, Amanda Khayisa, Mthembeni Ndlovu and Randhir Dhaniram responded and the vehicle was found in the rural area where the thieves had already started altering the vehicle.
Unfortunately, no one was arrested but the bakkie was impounded at the SAPS garage.

A case of theft of motor vehicle was opened at SAPS Port Edward .
Deputy Cluster Commander of Ugu Cluster, Brigadier Bongani Sibiya expressed his gratitude and his pride in his members.
He also praised Mr Ludick for assisting police on a constant basis to arrest criminals in the cluster.
