Guns and ammunition seized in Mkholombe and Murchison

THANKS to alert community members, two firearms and ammunition were recently recovered by police in Mkholombe and Murchison.
Two community members reported the whereabouts of illegal firearms in the Port Shepstone area and the information was immediately followed up on Tuesday this week.

In the afternoon, four members from Crime Prevention at Port Shepstone and two members from the Task Team arrested a 45-year-old man in a house in Mkholombe.
Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said a homemade firearm was found hidden under his bed. He was expected to appear in court on Wednesday (yesterday) for possession of a homemade firearm.
Meanwhile, Warrant Officer Sydney Seaton, Warrant Officer PC Naicker and Constable Wallace Daniels were gathering information regarding the second report by the community member.
On Tuesday morning, members went to Murchison to an identified premises and arrested two men, both in their 20s. The men were found in possession of a pistol, a magazine and 13 live rounds.
The two men will appear in court soon for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The firearm had not been reported stolen but belongs to a licensed owner in Ezinqoleni. Investigations into this matter are currently being done.
Investigations will be conducted to see if these firearms can be linked to crimes which have been committed in the area.
