UPDATE: Bail application date set for alleged rapist who gave victim (10) packet of chips
Rape accused who offered 10-year-old girl packet of chips to remain silent remains in police custody.

The case against the rape accused has been remanded to July 14 for a formal bail application.
The man remains in police custody.
ORIGINAL STORY:
A MAN accused of raping a 10-year-old girl is appearing in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court today (Wednesday, July 5).
Last Saturday evening the child left her Sezela home to fetch a bucket when was called out to by the man (43) who owns a nearby shop.

“He took her inside the shop where he told her to take off her clothes and then allegedly had sexual intercourse with her,” said Port Shepstone SAPS communications officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
He offered her a packet of chips to buy her silence, instructing her to keep quiet about the incident.
She later confided in a friend.
The suspect was taken into custody on Monday morning this week.
The Umzinto Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is investigating the case.
