The event honours local grandparents

This popular annual happening has a two-fold purpose as it is a charitable event that also pays tribute to the South Coast’s grandparents. Those taking part also make it a social occasion by enjoying the traditional communal post-walk breakfast served up to all the walkers.
It attracts a huge field and is, in fact, one of the biggest annual sporty happenings on the South Coast’s calendar. The course starts at St Michael’s and proceeds along Saint’s Walk to the half-way turning points at Uvongo and back to the start.
Last year, organisers highlighted the phenomenon of global grandparenting by inviting walkers to dedicate their walks to their grandchildren, wherever they were in the world. A large map of the world was provided and grandparents were able to place pins in the countries where their grandchildren lived.
It was amazing and poignant to see just how far-flung were the South Coast’s grandchildren and the organisers have decided that this project is definitely worth repeating this year.
Entry and the post-walk breakfast are free for all those taking part as the Rotarians and Rotary Anns are encouraging local businesses to support the event with sponsorship. For just R100 one of the South Coast’s sporty seniors will line up at the starting line, wearing your business’s name with pride. To enter or to sponsor a super senior contact Brenda at 039 3120231, Kitty at 083 2543886 or Brian at 039 3173302 or 0828290059.
