THIRTEEN cows belonging to a farmer in the Luphepheni area near St Faith’s were removed from a kraal, resulting in a stock theft case being opened at St Faith’s police station last Wednesday.
A number of community members started a search party to look for the cattle, and later found they had been driven towards the Highflats area by the thieves.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said it is suspected that the perpetrators got the news that they were being followed.
“When the thieves reached the river between St Faith’s and Highflats, they slaughtered two of the cattle and fled, leaving the remaining cattle behind. The people who went to look for the cattle found the 11 cows and the carcasses when they reached the river. No one has been arrested as yet,” she said.
The stock theft unit in Kokstad is investigating.
