Mother needs urgent assistance for baby born with serious medical condition

Desperation has prompted her to approach the media and she has taken her story to both the Daily Sun and Gagasi FM.

A YOUNG mother is hoping someone will step forward and help her child, who was born without an opening to his anus.

Khethelo  (9 months) was born at GJ Crookes Hospital in Scottburgh with an imperforate anus, meaning he needs to wear a colostomy bag.

Nomzamo says Khethelo need urgent medical attention for his condition, but she has been sent from pillar to post by health officials.

She said they make appointments for her to bring him in for surgery, but then always send them home without the operation being performed.

“We’ve been in and out of hospitals since my baby was born. This is not easy for me. I have had to quit my job so I can take care of him because no one understands his condition.

“He gets infections if the bag into which he relieves himself through his stomach is not cleaned regularly.”

Desperation has prompted her to approach the media and she has taken her story to both the Daily Sun and Gagasi FM.

This did not go down well with the provincial health department, she said, and  prompted its spokesman to scold her for going public about Khethelo’s condition.

Nomzamo said that at this point, she would appreciate any help offered to her.

“My child is growing. How is he going to play with other kids with a bag full of faeces attached to his stomach? He can’t live like this,” she sobbed.
