Accused in cocaine theft at Hawks Port Shepstone office applies for bail

The theft occurred in 2021.

Lucas Legabe (49) appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court for a formal bail application earlier today (September 8) in connection with the over 500kg of cocaine worth over R200m that was stolen from the Hawks’ office in Port Shepstone in 2021.

Legabe is facing charges of housebreaking with intent to steal, as well as dealing in drugs.

The bail application continues tomorrow, with the prosecution presenting its case.

The disappearance of the drugs has also come under the scrutiny of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
