Classic car show was a nostalgic treat

An impressive parade of Ford models through the ages set the ball rolling.

THE annual Scottburgh Classic Car Show just gets bigger and better every year but the lovely atmosphere that makes it such a nostalgic treat for car lovers never changes.

Apart from the wonderful cars on display, it is this happy vibe that ensures excellent public support for the show, organised annually by the Scottburgh Classic Car Club.

This year was no exception. Although the weatherman was a little uncooperative, the chilly wind didn’t stop exhibitors and spectators from pouring into the show grounds, at Scottburgh High School.

More than 400 owners of pre-1975 cars and bikes took part in this, the eighth charity Scottburgh Classic Car Show. About 30 classic car and bike clubs, from as far afield as Limpopo Province, were represented.

There were plenty of chrome-bedecked petrol guzzlers on display, including this magnificent 1961 Chevrolet Impala.

These included the South Coast’s Sports and Specials car enthusiasts group. Perhaps most eye-catching of the Sports and Specials line-up was the 1930 Austin Light Six, owned by Brett Bellinger.

The Ford marque held centre stage this year with more than 50 classic, vintage and veteran Ford automobiles taking part in the impressive Ford parade, the first of the many car processions, including the Fun and Fashion parade, that added sparkle to the proceedings.

As usual the show was extremely visitor friendly, offering ample parking, a shuttle service, attractive and well laid out showgrounds, plenty of food outlets, a tea terrace and a beer tent, with music from the golden age of motoring adding festive flair.

It might be small but this much-admired and coveted 1966 Sunbeam Tiger packs a mighty punch, with its powerful V8 engine.

All in all, the organisers succeeded, once again, in putting together a wonderful family day and a classic treat for petrol heads.

It is no wonder this annual show is now considered a major motoring event on the KwaZulu-Natal calendar – and one that shouldn’t be missed by anyone who loves cars, old or new.

The 2017 show was once again sponsored by the Rising Sun. The two primary beneficiaries of the proceeds this year are Action for the Blind and Disabled and Angels Care.
