DEDICATED police work paid off when two constables from Harding SAPS recovered a stolen vehicle in the town yesterday (Monday) morning.
Constables Ntuthuko Khalala and Busani Everson Cele were patrolling at 8.20am when they saw the white bakkie with NPS registration plates driving aimlessly in the Harding CBD.
“When they tried to stop the vehicle, it sped off,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
The officers followed the bakkie, The driver of the bakkie reduced speed and one of the two occupants jumped from the vehicle and fled. The constables followed the vehicle and managed to stop the driver.
“He could not produce a driver’s license and was taken to the police station. Upon checking the details of the vehicle, it was established that it had been reported stolen in Mfazazana, near Hibberdene during the previous night,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
The 25-year-old man will face charges of possession of stolen vehicle, driving without a driver’s license and theft of motor vehicle.
Meanwhile, officers from Port Shepstone conducted a fruitful operation in the Port Shepstone CBD last Thursday (July 20) when they recovered two stolen vehicles at a second hand dealer shop.
The two cars had been reported stolen earlier this year from Isipingo and Mondeor respectively and were impounded for further investigation.
Cluster commander for Ugu, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele, praised the officers for the recoveries and arrest.
