Proactive cops nab Scottburgh housebreakers red-handed before goods were reported stolen

The list of missing property included the very same goods recovered earlier by the officers.

AFTER making a morning patrol in the Scottburgh CBD on July 19, Constable Muzi Cromwell Nxumalo and Sifiso Bhekumuzi Mbhele of the Scottburgh SAPS came across two men who were in possession of property suspected to have been stolen.

The policemen  found a pedestal fan, microwave and kettle in their possession, for which they could not provide either receipts or a reasonable explanation of how they had acquired the goods.

“They gave conflicting stories, first saying that they had found the property in nearby bushes and trash bins, then saying that they had purchased them the previous day and were now taking them home,” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.

They were arrested and made their first appearance in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court on July 20, for possession of suspected stolen property.

On the same day, a 59-year-old woman from Adam Street, Scottburgh, discovered that her house had been burgled while she was away.

She reported the burglary and her list of missing property included the very same goods recovered earlier by the officers.

She was informed that both suspects, brothers Njabulo  (25) and Sanele Mbongeni Ngcobo (18) of Amahlongwa, had been arrested, were already in police custody and would face charges of housebreaking and theft.

The cases are being investigated by Detective Constable Cliffy Pillay of the Scottburgh SAPS Detective Service.
