Port Shepstone Secondary pupils bring home the gold

The school is extremely proud of the 18 candidates who wrote the exam and passed.

PORT Shepstone Secondary pupils Timera Naidoo (gr 12A) and Kiara Ramdhaw (gr 11B) scooped gold in the recent De Beers English Olympiad (a national exam written annually for over 50 years, which is part of the Arts Education Grahamstown Foundation sponsored by mining giant De Beers).

Timera placed in the top 100 in SA for this prestigious Olympiad. Only the finest candidates who gave creative, unique answers for the well-written and well-substantiated exam placed in the top 100.

There were 6 347 SA candidates altogether. There were also seven silver certificates, which is considered an excellent achievement in terms of the high standards expected.

Candidates are given prescribed literature and tested on their understanding of the text, as well as for their critical thinking skills.

The exam prepares pupils for independent studies expected of them at tertiary institutions. Well done to all candidates. This certificate will certainly add weight to their CVs.
