UPDATE: Robbery charges changed to charges of theft – suspects to appear in court

The suspects are aged between 17 and 24.

THE GROUP of men involved in the theft of goods from Surfer’s Paradise in Scott Street formerly faced charges of robbery.

These charges have now been changed to charges of theft.

The suspects are aged between 17 and 24 and will be appearing in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.

ORIGINAL STORY:

IN WHAT can only be called an impressive display of teamwork, Scottburgh SAPS and various security personnel were able to locate and apprehend six suspects  involved in the theft of goods from in the Scottburgh central business district yesterday (Tuesday, August 15).

Two men entered Surfer’s Paradise in Scott Street, followed a short while later by another three men.

Although there were two employees on duty in the shop at the time, one was in the bathroom when the men entered.

While trying to attend to the three men, the employee was quickly distracted by the first two men.

She then spotted the three men attempting to flee the store with a bag full of branded clothing items.

The employee ran to the door and tried to grab the bag from one of the robbers. He shoved her, she lost her grip and the three men fled.

However, she managed to shut the shop door, trapping the remaining two men in the shop while she sought help.

The fleeing suspects were spotted travelling  down George Crookes Street en route to the R102. They were apprehended by police and found to be in possession of the stolen goods.

The men will be appearing in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court this Thursday, August 17.
