Harding businesses targeted by criminals while closing

Airtime, cellphones and cash seem to be in high demand.

OVER the past two months several businesses in Harding have been robbed.

Most of the robberies occurred around closing time, when shop owners were confronted by armed men.

“We are working in fear,” said one businessman. He added that he had contacted the Herald in the hope that their story would be heard and that businesses in Harding could receive help.

“We never see visible policing in this town. We have also heard that police are dragging their feet with these investigations. In most cases shop owners have been held at gunpoint and some of them have been assaulted. Airtime, cellphones and cash are always high in demand,” said the businessman.

Police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka confirmed that most businesses were targeted while closing.

At a meeting held last week between management at Harding SAPS and businesses it was mentioned that more visible policing would be carried out,” said Captain Mfeka.

He added that Harding detectives are still investigating the cases and no arrests have yet been made.
