DRUGS HAVE been known to destroy the lives of many people and have contributed to an ever-growing number of drug addicts who have become criminals to support their habits financially.
The crimes these addicts commit are usually property-related crimes such as burglaries and overall petty theft.
The community can be pleased to hear that yet another drug dealer has been taken off our streets, thanks to the Scottburgh SAPS Detective Service.
Last year, Detective Constable Cliffy Pillay and his colleagues received information about a Malangeni man supposedly dealing drugs.

The policemen monitored the man and his house over several months and, on December 8 last year, worked with members from Scottburgh Crime Intelligence and Umzinto K9 Unit to target the unsuspecting dealer.
“The man was on the R102 Old Main Road near the entrance to Sezela, when police found a plastic packet containing 75 capsules in his trouser pocket,” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.
Sizwe Blessing Hlongwane (28), was arrested and detained pending his court appearance on a charge of dealing in drugs.
The capsules were seized and sent to the SAPS forensic laboratory, where it was confirmed that they contained heroin.

Hlongwane appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court last Thursday where he was convicted of dealing in drugs and sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment.
The Ugu Cluster commander, Major-General Sethenya Agnes Nxamagele, welcomed the sentence handed down by the court.
“We are deeply concerned with the number of people, especially youngsters, that are hooked on drugs – usually whoonga – and call on parents, religious and community leaders and other responsible adults to help rid society of this scourge that is killing our youth,” said Captain Pandarum. “Ensure that the children in your circles are not keeping bad company and that you know where they are at all times.”
The community is encouraged to inform the police of anyone possibly dealing in drugs.
