Ray Nkonyeni Municipality wins – for the 5th time

The municipality was lauded for having applied new enhancement norms and standards as set by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Human Settlements.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality recently received two provincial Govan Mbeki Awards – for the fifth consecutive time.

RNM topped the best accredited municipality level 1 category for housing and best rural housing project, beating five other local municipalities to take the win.

The municipality was lauded for having applied new enhancement norms and standards as set by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Human Settlements.

The Kwa-Ndwalane rural housing project was also named a winner as it showcased some new and unique features when compared to previous housing projects undertaken by the municipality.

The project, headed by Ngcolosi Consulting Engineers, boasted plastered walls inside and out, ceiling boards and a new roof tile design.

Company director, Thulani Bhengu said they were excited at having been part of development in their area, adding that it was an honour giving back to their own communities.

RNM is expected to compete at the national awards to be held in Port Elizabeth in November.
