Terence said, “With the recent storms in KwaZulu-Natal, it’s important to know how to swim. The festive season is around the corner and everyone loves going to the beach during the holiday season, so that is another reason to know how to swim.”

”Pupils should also know the importance of red flags on the beach because they indicate whether or not it is safe to swim there.”

Nicky Lilje, one of the swimming coaches in St Martin de Porres, teaches pupils about the varies ways they can move their legs when they are swimming.

The committee also allocated two coaches to the school, Nicky Lilje and Gerhard Labuschagne, who train and teach pupils about basic swimming strokes and water safety.
