ORIGINAL STORY: October 30

A pensioner (76) was found dead at his home in Goodlands Road, Southport last night.

An off-duty security officer alerted police at around 9pm when he saw ‘a suspicious-looking man’ carrying household goods.

When the officer approached the man, he dropped the goods and fled.

The officer traced the items – a television, cell phone, laptop and other items – to a house in the area.

When he arrived at the house, he found the gate locked but the doors open.  When he investigated, he found the man on the ground,  with an open wound to the back of his head.

He was declared dead at the scene.
