Woman arrested after shot fired in Uvongo

The woman's two rifles and a pistol were seized by the police.

POLICE arrested a 55-year-old woman on Tuesday last week for discharging a firearm at a complex in Uvongo.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said a resident in the complex heard a loud bang.

“She later discovered that the noise was a gunshot. There was a hole in her curtain and the window damaged,” she said.

Enquiries established that another woman staying in the same complex had fired the shot. She was arrested and charged with discharging a firearm and possession of unlicensed firearms. Two rifles and a pistol were seized.

“She could only produce a licence for one rifle. The pistol was used to fire the shot,” said Lt-Col Wiid.

The woman appeared in court last Wednesday and the case was postponed for further investigation.
