Prisoner escapes from Southport Police Station

He escaped through the toilet window.

POLICE are searching for an arrested suspect who escaped while in custody at Southport SAPS.

In the early hours of Tuesday, the police sergeanton duty accompanied the handcuffed suspect to the toilet.

The sergeant stood guard outside the toilet, but when the telephone rang in the charge office, he went to answer it.

“According to the sergeant, when he returned, he called out for the suspect, but there was no reply. He then discovered that man had jumped out of the open window,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

The suspect had been arrested for possession of vehicle breaking-in implements and he is still on the run.
