Umkomaas rapist sentenced to life imprisonment for raping child (10)

The culprit was arrested within three days of committing the crime.

Philani Ngcobo (25) was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court last Monday after being convicted of raping a 10-year-old child.

The rape took place on March 20 last year when the little girl was at a shop in Umkomaas.

“She was grabbed by the Ngcobo and dragged to the nearby bushes where he raped her,” said Captain Nqobile Gwala of KZN SAPS Media Centre.

A case of rape was opened after the child told elders what had happened.

Ngcobo was arrested within three days.

“The recent sentences handed down to criminals who attack and abuse vulnerable women and children corroborates that the FCS units in the province will make sure that the culprits are locked behind bars for a long time,” said the KwaZulu-Natal acting provincial commissioner, Major-General Bheki Langa.

“The team of detectives ensured that the culprit in this case was brought to book.”
