A 63-year-old man can count himself lucky today after car thieves made off with his vehicle, but left him unharmed.
Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the man had advertised his car for sale online, and was meeting up with potential buyers at a shopping complex in Tweni.
Two men arrived and asked to test drive the vehicle.
“They told the man to sit in the passenger seat and began driving towards the beach. On the way, they stopped and ordered the man to empty his pockets and get out of the vehicle.”
The men then drove off in the man’s car.
Lt-Col Wiid warned community members not to engage with strangers on social media and then meet up as sometimes the can have ulterior motives, as was the case in this incident.
Criminals are scrutinising social media and are constantly on the lookout for targets, she warned.
“Be alert and do not allow strangers into your car or your premises.”
