Three arrested by Umzinto SAPS for drug-related offences

One of the suspects was found with hard drugs worth an estimated R84 000.

Chidozile Frank Ekejiyba (42) faced charges of unlawful possession of drugs in the Umzinto Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday after being found in possession of 79 diamond ecstasy tablets, 74 banana ecstasy tablets, 12 moon pieces of rock cocaine, three rocks of methcathonone and two packets of rock cocaine powder.

Bail was set at R20 000 and he was remanded in custody pending his next court appearance on January 9.

Ekejiyba was arrested on Tuesday when the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Drug Unit acted upon information received that drugs were being transported to a house on a farm near Esperanza.

“Members of the unit pounced on the suspect at his rented home at Finingly Farm in Esperanza and seized a packet full of drugs,” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.

The drugs seized have an estimated value of R84 000.

The same day, Constable Ugen Govender of the Umzinto SAPS arrested a Gandhinagar resident (23) for being in possession of dagga near the Suria Centre.

Constable Kavish Maharaj then arrested a 24-year-old man for being in possession of whoonga at the Umzinto bus rank.
