A brave woman turned the tables on a man who forced his way into her Friesland Drive home earlier today and tried to rob her.
According to police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, the woman (31) heard a knock an the door.
“When she answered, a man asked for water before managing to push open the security gate.”

He produced what appeared to be a gun, and demanded the woman hand over her cellphone and cash.
The woman tried to flee, but the man grabbed her and began to strangle her.
“She managed to break free and ran outside – locking the security gate with him still inside – before calling for help.”
The intruder tried to escape by forcing open burglar guards in a bedroom.

“When this did not work, he hid in a kitchen cupboard where Sgt Rudi Smit and Const Sbu Cele from the 10111 response vehicle found him,” added Lt-Col Wiid.
The toy gun he had used to threaten the woman with was found concealed beneath a mattress.
“The necessary investigation will be done to establish if he can be connected to another house robbery earlier this month in the same area where the same modus operandi was used.”
