Scottburgh man’s car found before it was reported stolen

It was later established that the driveway gate motor had been tampered with.

Unaware that it had been stolen, a 25-year-old man was informed by Detective Constable Cliffy Pillay of the Scottburgh SAPS Task Team that his car had been found abandoned in Bermuda Way, Scottburgh South.

The man, a Marion Avenue, Scottburgh South resident, was contacted at about 2.45pm on Monday.

“The car had been parked in front of the residence, within fenced premises, with the alarm armed and the gear lock locked in place when last seen by the owner at about 8.30pm on Sunday,” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.

Dt Const Pillay was with members of the task team patrolling Bermuda Way when they came across the abandoned vehicle unlocked on the road.

Umzinto K9 unit was called to the scene after people had been heard running in the bushes. No one was found.

When the owner of the vehicle arrived to recover it, he noticed that the door lock and steering wheel had been damaged.
