Umzinto cops seize dagga worth thousands at roadblock

APPEARING in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court on Monday, a 21-year-old man faced charges of possession and dealing in drugs.

Constable Kishen Giani of the Umzinto K9 Unit had flagged down a minibus taxi during a roadblock on the N2 freeway at Park Rynie last week Friday. The vehicle, which had been travelling from Durban to Port Shepstone was then searched.

“A sports bag belonging to a commuter, Wiseman Mngomezulu, was found to contain three packages, tightly wrapped in brown cellophane tape,” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.

Opening one of the packets, police established that it contained dagga which had been vacuum sealed. The total weight came to 3.3 kilograms, with an estimated street value of R6 600. The drugs were seized.

Mngomezulu was remanded back into police custody until his next court appearance.
