Ugu District municipality’s Corporate Services head, Vuyiwe Tsako (42) has resigned from the municipality after six years in the position.
Ms Tsako reportedly resigned just a few weeks after being re-appointed to the position for the next five years.
Her contract expired last year and she had been waiting to be reinstated while acting in the role on a contract basis.
Ms Tsako’s resignation is effective from today (Thursday), the municipality’s spokesman France Zama said after having confirmed the news.
Insiders claim her decision came after a fierce campaign against her leadership by union members.

“She was forced to resign, even though her contract was renewed, because the union was unhappy with her and claimed to have sensitive information on her,” claimed the insider.
Earlier this year, the Herald reported that members of the South African Municipal Workers’ Union had called for her contract not to be renewed, amid claims that she had been preventing the municipality from maintaining a good relationship with its workers.
However Mr Zama said her resignation revolved around her future career prospects.
“The municipality extends its appreciation to Ms Tsako for her contribution made to the municipality during the period she was at Ugu. We wish her well in her career endeavours.”
Samwu chairman Mthandeni Ngcobo said they respected her decision.
“She did the right thing by resigning; she also knows that,” he said.
