Tuesday Rostrum to learn more about sex at sea

The speaker will try to unveil the mysteries of sexual reproduction in the oceans.

Tuesday Rostrum’s next luncheon meeting takes place at Mbango Valley on Tuesday, June 12 at noon.

Guest speaker will be Dr Deborah Robertson-Anderson, a senior lecturer in marine biology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, who will talk on ‘Sex in the Sea’.

It will be a tasteful presentation, full of humour and information because Deborah believes that knowledge of animal sex is not just fascinating, but also a ‘conservation necessity.’

“If we really want to understand the value sex has for human life and conservation, we have to get over our own prudishness,” said Deborah.

Her other interests include the mass culture of seaweeds, the ecologically-balanced integrated mariculture of abalone and fish, the socio-economic impacts of abalone cultivation in South Africa, microplastics and many other things relating to the ocean. For Tuesday Rostrum, however, she will try to unveil the mysteries of sexual reproduction in the oceans.
