Winter market to warm hearts in Port Edward
Bring a can of food and enjoy a day of crafts and homemade treats at the Newport Winter Market in Port Edward.
The Port Edward Methodist Church will host its Newport Winter Market on Saturday, July 18, combining shopping, homemade treats and community giving to help support the church’s outreach programmes.
Visitors can browse a variety of craft stalls, enjoy homemade food and watch the third annual baking competition, where entrants will compete for a range of prizes.
Instead of paying an entry fee, visitors are asked to bring a can of food or other non-perishable items such as pasta, noodles or soup. The donations will be handed to the Help Foundation, which distributes food to families in the community experiencing food insecurity.
Youth pastor Chantal Blucher said the market is about more than fundraising.
“It’s an opportunity for our community to come together, support local vendors and bakers, and enjoy a wonderful day out. We also hope that while people enjoy the market, they’ll have the opportunity to bless someone in need,” she said.
Blucher said proceeds from the market will help the church continue its various ministries, including providing free, clean drinking water from four large water tanks for anyone who needs it.
“We don’t charge for the water because we believe it is a practical way of showing God’s love. Although it has become a significant financial commitment, we remain committed to keeping this ministry going,” she said.
