Crime in Uvongo at record low, reports CSF

Crime has dropped despite April being a busy month.

Only 6 housebreaking incidents were reported in Uvongo during April, says Ernest Booysen of the Uvongo Community Safety Forum.

According to Mr Booysen, although it was a very busy month and included several holidays, along with plenty of motorcycles and visitors to the area, housebreakings were at a record low.

“This figure could have been much higher were it not not for the vigilance of residents and the quick responses of the different patrol units. We have experienced many attempted break-ins, especially in the Sector 4 area (Lilliecrona, Svea, and Broadway) where the criminals had to flee empty handed because of the vigilance of residents and the effectiveness of their alarm systems.

During March, the UCSF  noticed that incidents primarily occurred during the early morning hours before sunrise. This has now changed to broad daylight activities.

“A new trend is breaking in to vehichles which are parked outside. When it is necessary to park a vehicle outside during the night,  ensure that no valuables are left inside. Also park it close to the house, near windows if possible, and in a well-lit area,” said Mr Booysen.

It is recommended that a motion detection security light, which also activates a small beeper, should be fitted where vehicles are parked and all around the house.
