Sheppie Snippets: Let’s play a game of thunee

A bhangra and old school classics session will be held at the start of the tournament.

Another nail-biting Thuneee Classic Challenge is set to be played at the Wild Coast Sun Hotel and Casino Resort on Saturday, May 26 from midday. Cost is R200 per team.

With R20 000 up for grabs, some 200 thunee gurus are set to take part in the tournament which attracts players from as far as Johannesburg, Chatsworth and Phoenix and local players.

To start off the tournament a Bhangra and Old School classics session will be held at Chico’s buffet restaurant on Friday night at R150 per person.

Ramadan

The month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is upon Muslims around the world. This year, Ramadan officially starts this Thursday, May 17.

Muslims reach out during this time to help those around them. Ramadan culminates in great festivities after the 29 or 30 days and Eid ul-Fitr is celebrated on the first day of Shawwaal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar. Talk about crime

Port Shepstone Saps is holding a joint Business Against Crime (BAC) meeting this Thursday, May 17 at 6pm at the Saps conference room.

Business owners, managers and residents of Port Shepstone CBD as well as Newtown, Princess Elizabeth Drive and the beachfront areas are urged to attend.

Schools’ volleyball

Book launch

Prithiraj Dullay (Pritz) will launch his book, Salt Water Runs in My Veins, in London in collaboration with the Commonwealth Writers and the Commonwealth Foundation on Tuesday, May 22.

This is a compendium of 21 short stories that extend over 100 years and encapsulates Mr Dullay’s life while growing up on the South Coast. He is a respected university academic, columnist and he also writes extensively for several newspapers.

25th anniversary

The Saiva Vazhipatu Kazhagam of South Africa, Port Shepstone branch invites everyone to its 25th anniversary commemoration to be held at the Port Shepstone Arya Samaj Hall next Sunday, May 27 at 1.45pm for 2pm.

Golf day

Shree Raam Narayan Temple Society will host its first golf day at the Port Shepstone Country Club next Sunday, May 27 from 9am. This event is being held to raise much-needed funds for the construction of a priest’s home and a temple hall.

The golf tournament is being coordinated by Pro-Vision Golf and Social Club. Tee-off time is 9am for a shotgun start. There are fantastic prizes to be won.

The temple is requesting any contribution in cash or kind.
