Head to Scottburgh for annual classic car show

Pre-registration makes it easier for car owners to find their allocated parking places.

The Scottburgh Classic Car Show (SCCS), one of the biggest annual motoring events in KwaZulu-Natal, takes place at Scottburgh High School on Sunday, July 8 from 9am.

More than 25 classic car clubs will be participating as well as many individual exhibitors. Each year the Scottburgh Car Club features a different marque and this year there will be a large collection of Morris cars on show, dominated by the iconic Morris Minor which sold over a million vehicles in the 1960s.

The Durban Morris Minor Club will present a magnificent display of these popular family cars. The club will also be celebrating its 35th anniversary.

Scottburgh Classic Car Club spokesman Peter Fielding said pre-1975 cars, motorbikes, supercars and cars of ‘special interest’ are invited to pre-register on the show’s website, www.scottburghclassiccarshow.co.za, in order to exhibit.

“This year we introduced pre-registration for our show. This is necessary because not only does it make it easier for cars to find their allocated parking places, but it ensures that the right cars enter the show field,” he said.

Cars like the 1936 Riley will be at the Scottburgh Classic Car Show.

“Please understand that these qualifications are necessary to ensure that the SCCS does not degenerate into a display of modern vehicles whose owners believe that their modern plastic is a ‘classic’. It will remain a ‘Classic Car Show’ for genuine classic car enthusiasts.”

Gates open at 7.30am for classic car and bike exhibitors. An entirely voluntary donation of R5 will be requested from each classic vehicle and bike that enters the show field, which will go towards charity.
