ANC congress is costing lives, say local branch members
According to some Ray Nkonyeni sub-region members who wished to remain anonymous for fear of victimisation, these killings had been carried out as a result of power mongering between two factions.

The re-run of the ANC KwaZulu-Natal provincial congress is costing lives, with more politicians being assassinated ahead of the fiercely-contested provincial and regional congresses, say local ANC branch members.
According to some Ray Nkonyeni sub-region members who wished to remain anonymous for fear of victimisation, these killings had been carried out as a result of power mongering between two factions.

The province, including the local ANC, is plagued by squabbles between pro-Ramaphosa supporters and those who support former president Jacob Zuma.
Members believed some comrades had been fighting for positions and had been prepared to do whatever it took to remain in power.
“When will this ‘position versus life’ trend stop in the ANC?” asked one member.
On Monday this week, ANC regional spokesman Mzwandile Mkhwanazi said whoever had been fighting for the conferences to go ahead despite the ongoing killings had sinister motives and were merely concerned with power.
Mr Mkhwanazi was speaking live on ENCA, from the home of the latest victim, Musa Mchunu, who was ambushed in Pietermaritzburg last Saturday following a joint press briefing in Margate.
His death came days after Oshabeni branch leaders Sifiso Cele and Nombuso Mqadi were gunned down.
“If people want positions, let them take those positions but they must not kill our comrades,” said Mr Mkhwanazi.
National Executive member, Zizi Kodwa, added that these killings appeared to be well-orchestrated and had been used to destabilise the ANC in KZN.
Meanwhile, local branch members said they feared more people would be killed, particularly those who were vocal about the postponement of the conferences.
On Monday, the ANC’s top brass classified the LSC region and three others as ‘concerning’ because of rising tensions between the factions.
President Cyril Ramaphosa said they would not allow the province to be turned into a killing field as had happened in the 80s.
Investigations into the killings continue.
