Deputy mayor Ronnie Nair gave financial grants-in-aid to various NGOs and NPOs on behalf of the mayor, Councillor Cynthia Mqwebu, who was away on council business.  Councillor Nair said they were pleased to support organisations which helped communities in different ways, such as running crèches, environmental management programmes, churches, child welfare organisations, sports organisations and others.

Representing their respective organisations which received grants-in-aid from Ray Nkonyeni Municipality recently are (from left) Amon Xolo, Rev Aron Lubanyana and Bongani Mqadi.

“As a municipality we are not forced to support these organisations but we do it because they help communities. This year we received 126 applications for grants and we approved 121. The other five applicants were disqualified because they did not submit all the necessary documents such as bank statements, proof that they were from Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, and their financial management plans and expenditures,” he said.
