“Our organisation exists to provide high quality end-of-life care and bereavement services to terminally ill persons and their families. We provide comfort care when curative treatment is no longer the patient’s choice addressing the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of the patient and family. Our belief is that quality of life is as important as length of life,” explained Ms van Dyk.

Mrs van Dyk reiterated that South Coast Hospice is one of only four hospices in the province with an in-patient unit.

“When patients are referred to South Coast Hospice, their health care goals change from cure to comfort. The family unit is then better prepared for the reality of the illness and is able to face the last stages of life more comfortably and confidently.”
