Man dies after falling from boat at Shelly Beach

NSRI urge boaters and anyone launching any kind of craft to wear life-jackets.

A man, believed to be aged in his 60s, died at Shelly Beach this morning.

Jeremiah Jackson, NSRI Shelly Beach station commander said NSRI Shelly Beach duty crew responded to a man who had fallen out of a boat which was launching through the surfline at 8.15am.

He said it appeared that three men were aboard the boat, Grobbies, which is thought have taken a wave,  causing one of the crew to be thrown from the boat and into the surf.

We believe bystanders were able to recover the man from the water while the casualty boat was able to turn around and beach

Responders included NSRI crew, KZN Private Ambulance Services, Med-Evac Ambulance Services, Police Search and Rescue, the SA Police Services, Natal Sharks Board members, Shelly Beach Law Enforcement,  Shelly Beach Control, local charter boat personnel and bystanders.

Police have opened an inquest docket.
