Park Rynie thief crashes employer’s vehicle

He crashed the vehicle into a tree after helping himself to the keys.

Nkosingiphile Cyprian Machi (23) appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrates’ Court on Monday this week, charged with housebreaking and theft, as well as theft of a motor vehicle.

“He was employed at a residence in Marine Drive, Park Rynie and on June 5, his employer apparently gave him the keys to the premises so that he could access the yard that he was employed to clean up,” said Scottburgh Saps communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.

“The employee used the keys to enter the house from where he removed the keys of his employer’s motor vehicle.”

He drove off in the vehicle, but crashed into a tree in Marine Drive shortly thereafter,  damaging the front of the vehicle. Machi had then abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.

He has been remanded in police custody until June 15 for a formal bail application hearing.
