Tweni Talk: Keep your wits about you at night
Thankfully Charles and his daughters are fine, but he cautions people to stay alert.
PLEASE take all precautions when travelling – especially at night. Charles Wallis had a flat tyre on the corner of 4th Street and Marine Drive late last Saturday night.
When he stopped to change the tyre, two men ran towards the vehicle and unsure of what their intentions were, (perhaps a hijacking?), Charles drove away.

Luckily Riaan Nel from Lazer 911 was in the vicinity and attended the scene. The men fled up Ambleside Road. Thankfully Charles and his daughters are fine, but he cautions people to stay alert.
Sell-out fund-raiser
The ‘It’s High Time for Tea’ camera upgrade fund-raiser at Royston Hall was a sell-out! The women looked lovely and everyone had a good time. A whopping R9 650 was raised, thanks to local sponsors Ria Hackland and staff, her generous gesture for the venue, Selvan Chetty, Felicity Wiid, Doug Maritz, Louis Joubert, Mandy Pretorius, Gill van Heerden, Maggie Venter, Narusha Perumal, Julie Solomon, Lane and Kelly Allan, René Coull and Derick and Susan Williamson for making this happen. Sincere thanks also go to Hawkin Hansen (on the piano) and entertaining speaker Glenda Schutgens. The team had a wonderful time and cannot wait to hold another similar event in the near future.
Eskom update
If you are wondering about the Eskom network, contractors are making slow but steady progress. Due to giant green trees in Tweni, work is proceeding at a slower rate than expected.
They have to tunnel under roads and driveways and may not cut through roots thicker than a thumb, or harm wildlife, including black mambas awakened from slumber.
They work around and under giant tree roots and river stones. Things are a little easier under driveways though.
They use lateral drilling equipment, but need to be careful as sometimes water pipes and cables have been laid side-by-side and from time to time things may go wrong.
Preserve your plants
The men have only shovels and two-metre-long crowbars to work with and the neat holes on either side of driveways are going to be there for a while longer, because cable jointers need a solid flow of work.
The time will come though when it is time to turn off electricity and do a major switch-over to connect to existing transformers.
Remember that road reserves are for municipal use and contractors are doing their best to respect pavement gardens. However, if you planted precious plants on top of an Eskom cable, it could be time to move them soon.
