New Shelly Beach Lion members will be welcome

The club is very proactive and involved in community projects.

Shelly Beach Lions held a membership and awareness drive at Hillbillion Estate in Oslo Beach on Tuesday evening.

It was a great social gathering which was attended by a number of invitees.

Speakers included Port Shepstone Lion, Immediate Past Council Chairman Denis Meyer who gave a brief introduction to Lions Clubs International, Past Council Chairman Paul Brauteseth who spoke on the history of the Shelly Beach Lions Club.

Lion Charles Taylor spoke on the clubs various fundraising projects, Lion Clint Frey who spoke about the clubs many service projects and Club President Elect Brad Visser who motivated all present to continue supporting the club and consider joining their ranks.

Lions Club of Shelly Beach celebrates its 10th anniversary in September this year. This service club, founded by Lion Paul Brauteseth, is very proactive and involved in community projects.

The club holds a diabetes testing clinic every second month in the Shelly Beach area. These clinics, offering free blood sugar testing to the public to screen for possible diabetic conditions, are a major focus of Lions and are a valuable service to the public.

The club also provides food for 120 children at a crèche in Gamalakhe.

The club raises money for community projects from the Lions’ successful ‘Snack Shack’, a food stall near the pits at Dezzi South Coast Raceway, owned by Desmond and Louise Gutzeit. Everything in the fully equipped kitchen has been donated by the community and all the funds raised go back into the community.
