Sprightly seniors get sporty at Villa Bruno’s mini Olympics

They enjoyed a number of activities, from carpet bowls to basketball, football, bowling and darts to pinning the tail on the donkey.

While the Comrades Marathon was a major sport event last weekend with the entire country being gripped by the sporting action, here on the South Coast it was no different.

Sport was definitely the main attraction when senior citizens of Villa Bruno at Mbango Valley had their own mini Olympics recently.

They enjoyed a number of activities, from carpet bowls to basketball, football, bowling and darts to pinning the tail on the donkey. Karin Lehmann of Mbango said that this mini Olympics is a motivator to stay fit and active, be independent, and have a great quality of life.

“It used to be that when you turned 50 or 60, it was time to go sit in your rocking chair on the porch. Now the mindset is, ‘I don’t want my years to fade away. I want to do something’,” explained Karin.
