Hibberdene Happenings: Ambulance arrives with a licence to chill…
A telephone call to the number emblazoned on the side of the ambulance went unanswered.
A RATHER disturbing incident took place in the beach parking area recently when an ambulance, bearing the insignia of a Durban-based medical service, drew up, parked in the parking area and proceeded to play really loud music, ignoring all pleas to turn the volume down.

The ‘staff’ were then seen offloading bottles of liquor, which they consumed in the vehicle and parking area. A telephone call to the number emblazoned on the side of the ambulance went unanswered, which begs the question – was the vehicle legal and what was the reason for the crew’s bad behaviour?
Thank you
The Methodist Church’s recent jumble sale was extremely well supported, raising in the region of R3 000 and grateful thanks are extended to donors and purchasers alike.
Tea with taste
And the ‘Post-Royal Wedding Tea’ held at the church last Thursday proved to be an outstanding success. The women were beautifully dressed in their hats and finery, the men splendid in their suits and ties and the spread laid on was ‘out of this world’. A great time was had by all who attended.
Open invitation
You are cordially invited to the Hare Krishna’s next enlightenment session to be held at the Hibberdene Care Centre this Saturday, June 23, at 3pm.
Supper will be served and Rajin Mahabeer may be contacted at 082 8362758 for more information.
Monthly get-together
Sunday sees Mizpah Church’s monthly chicken braai take place. Join in by taking your own meat and a salad to share if you are not partial to chicken. Chicken will be available for a small voluntary donation at the braai. All are welcome to attend.
Diarise the date
Be sure to be at the next Mtwalume flea and craft market at Koelwaters Resort on Saturday, July 7, from 9am onwards. Specifically, try to be there around 10amwhen Sue Paterson and her band of helpers hand over a donation of ‘winter warmth’ and other goodies to Pastor Johan Nel for distribution to less fortunate and needy people encountered in his ministry. This market is becoming more and more popular and once again tables are free of charge. Contact Sue at 039 9721425 for more information. All the usual flea market favourites will be on offer, so what could be better than shopping at your leisure to the lovely, live music of Andy Els? Roll up for a morning of entertainment and fun.
Can you help?
The present lessee of part of a beautiful old house in Mtwalume is anxious to find out more about the history of the house as it is reported to be in excess of 100 years old and she knows very little about its background.

The house, situated in Dek Road, is really impressive and anyone knowing anything about its background history is asked to pass it on to your scribe, who in turn will contact the person requiring it.
Deepest sympathy
Sadly, Mara Foster died during the week. Mara and her late husband Reg, who died only a few months ago, ran the tuck shop at the-then Hibberdene Caravan Park for many years, and as such, became very well-known to locals and holidaymakers. Sympathy goes to her children and grandchildren. Condolences are extended to Lawrence Barry, whose wife Cathryn died during the week as well.
Special days
Special anniversary wishes go to Joan and Stan Sackett for their 63rd wedding anniversary on June 25th and to Liz and Robert Arkley for the 23rd. Happy birthday to Sarie Bruwer (21st), Martie Broodryk (22nd), Petro Wiid and Frances Raymond (24th), Marita Balzer (25th), Leslie Verkerk, Allimuthoo Pillay and your scribe’s colleague Lorraine Lawlor (26th).
Happy holidays
With schools closing this Friday (22nd), pupils and visitors to the town are wished a wonderful break with warm weather and sunshine and hopefully … sardines. Don’t forget that Lizzie must be kept busy, so send all Hibberdene news, snippets and photos.
